Intensives are a condensed and focused approach to relationship counseling that will provide you with the time you need to address specific issues and get your relationship back on track. Couples who have experienced this form of therapy usually describe it as life-changing and transformative.
Why Intensive Therapy?
Intensive therapy sessions were designed for people who must travel to be seen by a therapist trained in the Gottman method, and for clients who have difficulty scheduling weekly sessions into their lives. It is also very beneficial for people who want an accelerated and in depth therapy experience where they are not worried about the clock running out at the end of the ninety minutes. For many, success is accelerated with intensive therapy because the couple builds on the progress they are making with each hour that passes. And finally, it’s a great fit for couples who are eager to increase their connection, communication and intimacy at a faster pace.

Benefits of Intensive Therapy
You will have time to talk in depth about the struggles and challenges of the relationship without the interruption that can happen with traditional weekly sessions. This allows you to maintain a sense of safety and build on progress as it is being made. There is time for laughter and connectedness as well as the opportunity to process past injuries that have never healed. There is time to learn and practice new communication skills to help you have more productive conversations. There’s time to rebuild.
It is my goal to provide an environment of safety for both partners. You will be treated with dignity and respect, without judgment, throughout the process.
Cancellation Policy
Because our intensive sessions are infrequent and in high demand, we request 50% of the total cost in order to schedule the appointment. The remaining amount is charged one hour before the session starts. Clients may cancel up to three weeks in advance with no penalty. Clients who cancel 1-2 weeks before the session may apply the 50% deposit to a future intensive. Unfortunately, due to the difficulty of finding clients to fill the session time within 7 days, clients who cancel less than one week before the intensive appointment will forfeit the deposit.
Are you a Good Candidate for Intensive Therapy?
Should you have any questions regarding the following issues, please contact us for clarification about whether Intensive Therapy is suitable for your situation. These issues are:
If there is active alcohol and/or drug addiction on the part of either or both partners, from either partner’s perspective
If there is serious violence in your relationship, threats by one or both partners that serious violence might occur, or fear of such serious violence on the part of one or both partners
If either partner currently has an untreated major mental illness (schizophrenia, recurrent psychotic depression, or bipolar/manic-depressive illness.) Note: This does not include past, successfully treated psychotic episodes (e.g. post-partum depression with psychosis)
If there is an undisclosed, current affair that you are not willing to disclose
If there is an ongoing or previous affair clients are not ready to end or disclose. (such secrets predict marital therapy failure)
If either partner is currently experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or has a history of serious harm inflicted on him/herself or another person
